attended Mathematical Association of America (MAA) meetings, and planned Math Awareness
Week activities.
Multicultural Student

to go skiing or snowboarding with a group. At the end of the day you can sit back and

working with NIACCs Environmental Affairs Council to raise environmental awareness
on campus. Members discuss environmental issues and make recommendations to encourage
environment-friendly decisions and practices at NIACC.

Student Senate:
The Student Senate serves as the Student Government and much more.
Students become involved with:
- planning
- campus activities and entertainment
- doing community service projects
- organizing community college advocacy efforts
and helping to get students involved at North Iowa Area Community College. Student Senate
allows students to see what college is all about. Students get the whole experience, not
just Being in college: But being a part of the College.
One job of the Student Senate includes fairly distributing the
Student Activity fees to all of the various clubs and organizations. Some of the events
that Senate plans and puts on include Homecoming week, hypnotists, comedians, and
musicians.

The Student Senate also cleans their section of California Avenue once per
semester, raises money for the MDA with their annual Halloween dance, assists with
gathering letters to send to our representatives in support of community colleges
(collecting more than 1000 letters in 2001!) and provides volunteers at the various campus
fairs, visit days, and for many other campus and community events.
If you're interested in getting involved, sign up for Student Senate. In
addition to being in the middle of the action, many leadership opportunities are also
available to the Student Senators including participating in the Statewide Leadership
Conference, held each Fall Semester for all of the Community College student leaders in
Iowa. The Student Senate also elects six officers to make up the Senate Board. The Senate
Board includes the President, Vice President, Secretary, Community Service Chair,
Community College Advocacy Chair, and the Public Relations Chair. All Senate board members
receive a scholarship for their leadership in the elected position.
How to join?
Student Senate is a one credit class that meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30-
1:30pm. All you have to do is ask your Academic Counselor about signing up, it's that
easy!

Tennis Club

was founded in January of 2006 and the club meets every Sunday during the school
year for practice. Practices consist of members just playing tennis together for
fun. The club offers every NIACC student/faculty a chance to meet new people,
stay in shape with the lifelong sport of tennis and also a great way to enjoy
the outdoors and indoors. The Tennis Club meets indoors at the North Iowa
Fairgrounds during the winter months and all of it is free for members. During
the outdoor season, the Trojan Tennis Club meets at the NIACC Tennis Courts next
to the dorms. We have refreshments at meetings to make it an even better time
for all who attend. To join the tennis club, contact club adviser Jamie Zanios
at zaniojam@niacc.edu or call him at (641) 422-4162.

If you like to sing, join the Concert Choir, which is open to all
students, or sign up for private voice lessons. You might also try out for the NIACC
Singers show choir, which performs locally and takes a major tour every other year to such
