Have you ever considered how people affect one another? Have you ever wondered how words, deeds, actions, or body language play into our ability to communicate with one another? If so, a major in communications studies may be just the ticket you have been seeking. Individuals who pursue this type of degree tend to be people-focused, are fascinated by how communication is used in forming relationships with one another, and how differing cultures use communication as an art form in seeking mutual agreements and/or achieving cultural tolerance. Areas of study will be centered upon language construction and articulation, leadership, problem solving, thinking critically, nonverbal communication, conflict management, interviewing, and leadership attributes. Skill development along with understanding and evaluating the nature of social communication will be the primary focus of study within any of the earlier mentioned contexts.
