Articulation of the AAS Degree:
A Major Step in Placing the AAS Degree on Par
with the AA Degree
The University of Northern Iowa signed an articulation agreement
with NIACC on February 28, 2001, which provides students in the following technical
programs an opportunity to transfer to UNI as a junior in the Technology
Management major:
The rationale for this initiative includes the following:
-
This provides a transfer option for technical students in the above areas
of study that, heretofore, didn't exist. It represents another step to develop
the workforce, improve the delivery system and leverage resources between
two fine higher education institutions.
-
It represents another excellent strategy for implementing economic and
workforce development.
-
It depicts "systems building" at its best.
-
It connects our k-12 Tech Prep initiative with the University of Northern
Iowa, as many technical transfer graduates will be Tech Prep alumni.
-
Finally, but certainly not least important, it represents a major step
in placing the AAS degree on par with the AA degree, providing NIACC graduates
an opportunity to earn a four-year degree if desired.
