North Iowa Area Community College offers so many clubs
and organizations, it will make your head spin! Our smorgasbord of recreational,
intellectual and social activities will make your college experience even more memorable.
So, along with your classes, join the club!

Art Club:
Explore your creative side with the Art Club.
Art majors are highly encouraged to participate in this club; however, you
do not have to major in art to benefit. The Art Club seeks to develop
greater interest in the visual arts. Artist workshops, field trips, social
events, business meetings and student exhibits are organized by members. An
annual spring trip to the Art Institute of Chicago gives an opportunity to
view internationally recognized art.
Campus Ministry Association:
Campus Ministry Association (CMA) has a mission
to turn lost souls into Christ-centered laborers. CMA exists to help college
students find their purpose in life, make healthy choices, know that true
love transforms lives and convey the answer to a hurting world around us.
Activities include large group topical and bible teachings, small group
topical and bible studies, worship, prayer, service, fellowship and

College Athletics
NIACC athletes are on top of the game and have
won honors such as conference titles, regional titles and even national
championships. NIACC takes pride in a long and successful athletic
history. The athletic program emphasizes the total development of the
student-athlete: academic development, athletic development and social

Collegiate Entrepreneurs' Organization:
The Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization (CEO) chapter provides
its members with opportunities to gain insights to new venture creation and
the operation of a new enterprise. Activities include regular chapter
meetings with guest speakers, attending CEO national conferences and
fundraising activities. The CEO chapter is a member of the national CEO
organization, and students from all academic areas are encouraged to become

Dance Team:
The NIACC Dance Team meets September through February, performing during
half-time at basketball games and competing at the Iowa State Dance Team
Association statewide competition in December. Routines feature a variety of
dance styles, and choreography is a collection between the dancers and the
coach. Membership is by audition only. Contact the athletic department in the
spring for information regarding tryouts for the following school year.

Defensive Tactics:
Anyone planning on a career in law enforcement
should join the Defensive Tactics Club for a great defense. The club works
to explore, research and learn police defensive tactics in a scientific and
responsible format, which reduces and/or minimizes the risk of injury to the
participants while enhancing and positively challenging the participants
physically, mentally and psychologically in a manner that will prove
beneficial in their professional lives. For more information, contact

Disc Golf Club:
Explore a new form of physical exercise and
entertainment through the Disc Golf Club. It provides an opportunity for
students to interact in a social and fun environment. Members also
have the opportunity to participate in tournaments. For more

Education Club:
Learn something new in the Education Club. The club
introduces students to the profession of teaching through field trips,
speakers and social experiences with other future teachers. The club is open
to all students regardless of their level of commitment to the teaching

Equity Alliance:
The Equality Alliance is NIACC’s gay-straight alliance. The
Alliance has three main goals: to educate the NIACC community about gay,
lesbian, bisexual, transgender and straight ally issues; to support members
of the NIACC community who are coming to accept their sexual and/or gender
orientation; and to create a safe place for all NIACC students to come
together socially and be themselves without fear of reprisal from bigoted or
intolerant people.

Forum Club:
If you like to debate, join other students and
NIACC faculty in discussing current controversial topics such as the
environment, politics and social issues. The Forum Club sponsors a series of
speakers throughout the year.

Global Diversity
The Global Diversity club supports
international students, students for whom English is not their first
language and students who have emigrated to the United States. The Club also
invites all students to get involved with students from other cultures and
backgrounds. Opportunities are provided to explore local culture, get to
know faculty and staff, and attend social events. Special recognition is
provided for outstanding international students.

INK: NIACC's Literary Magazine:
INK is an outlet for all kinds of creative minds!
The club meets, sponsors poetry readings and produces a literary magazine
also called Ink. Materials accepted by the club include free-verse,
structured poetry, fiction and expository writing as well as artwork and
photography for publication each semester.
Pieces must have the names of the originators (even though we can and do
print works anonymously on request) and their affiliations with NIACC (be
them a student, alumni, faculty or staff) for consideration. Works can be
submitted electronically by sending a document to
INK@NIACC.edu, or a hard copy can be
given to a member of our staff. Electronic submissions should be in
Microsoft Word or PDF format.

Instrumental Music:
You can actually join up to three ensembles right
at NIACC – the North Iowa Concert Band, the North Iowa Symphony Orchestra
and NIACC Jazz Ensemble. The Concert Band and Symphony Orchestra are
composed of NIACC students and community members from North Iowa, and
membership in the Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble are by auditions only. Private
lessons are also available.

Intramural Sports:
The intramural sports program provides an
opportunity to participate in the sport of your choice on both a competitive
and informal recreational basis. Participants often use the new
state-of-the-art Recreation Center. Activities may include basketball,
flag football, one-on-one basketball, tennis, free-throw contest,
volleyball, slam dunk, and more!

Karate Club:
The Japan Karate Association (JKA) at NIACC is
open to students and staff interested in the art of Karate-do. Training with
the Karate Club can improve your flexibility, conditioning, strength,
balance, coordination and ability to defend yourself. Rank acquired through
JKA at NIACC is recognized at JKA clubs and schools throughout the world.

Logos Student Newspaper*:
Explore your journalism talents, from reporting to photography to
advertising sales through Logos, the student newspaper. Published by students,
Logos is an
award-winning publication released every other week. Working diligently on the paper will
give you one semester hour of credit for each term you contribute. The papers
editors receive scholarships and often have an opportunity to participate in national
newspaper conventions.

Math & Engineering Club:
The NIACC Math and Engineering Club provides
various opportunities for students with a range of mathematical abilities
and interests to participate in mathematical activities. Since the club
began in 1997, members have competed in a national student mathematics
competition, attended regional mathematics meetings and sponsored a variety
of activities celebrating Math Awareness Month which is held in April.
Events provide students opportunities to interact with the NIACC faculty on
a more informal basis.
Net
Bytes*:
This club provides opportunity for members to
join a cyber defense team or compete in weekly video game contests.
Net-Bytes Club also sponsors two cyber defense teams that train for
competition against other community college teams. The cyber defense
competition is held at Iowa State University during the first weekend of

Nursing Club:
Nursing students will benefit from joining
NIACC’s Nursing Club. The club hosts informational and social meetings for
all nursing students during the year. Nursing students often participate
together for community service projects.

Older Wiser Learners (OWLS):
If you’ve been out of the educational system for
some time, OWLS (Older Wiser Learners) may help you feel more comfortable.
OWLS are students 23 years of age and up who gather together to encourage
each other, share success, solve problems, network, meet new friends, let
off steam, cut red tape and learn about the college system. You’ll likely
find strong support and friendships through this group which meets monthly
for lunch.

Phi
Theta Kappa (PTK)*:
Expand your scholarship opportunities after NIACC by
joining the College’s Alpha Psi Beta chapter of PTK, an international honor
society that recognizes the academic accomplishments of students attending
two-year colleges. To become a member, you must have a 3.25 GPA after
completing 12 semester hours at NIACC and be enrolled in at least three
semester hours of classes.

Physical Therapy Club:
Physical Therapy Club is open to students
interested in physical therapy. The club promotes public awareness of
physical therapy as well as professionalism and leadership among physical
therapy students. Members meet monthly to plan physical therapy activities,
volunteer activities and social events.

Ski and Snowboard Club*:
The NIACC Ski and Snowboard Club is an outdoor snow-sports student organization. We plan several weekend day trips to local ski resorts such as Mount Kato,
Afton Alps or Welch Village; local cross country skiing and a trip to the
Rocky Mountains (Colorado or Montana) during
Spring break. We negotiate competitive ski and transportation rates. It's great fun
to go skiing or snowboarding with a group. At the end of the day you can sit back and
enjoy the bus ride home without the worry of driving. Learn more, look at photos of our

Student
Environmental Affairs Club:
Student Environmental Affairs Club is composed of
students working with NIACC’s Environmental Affairs Council to raise
environmental awareness on campus. Members discuss environmental issues and
make recommendations to encourage environment-friendly decisions and
practices at NIACC.

Student Senate:
NIACC Student Senate is a great way to get
involved. Student senators, who receive one semester hour of credit each
term, attend statewide and national leadership conferences as well as
student senate retreats, lobby at the state capitol, participate in
community service and represent the student body. Student Senate also
organizes on-campus activities like hypnotists and game shows.

Tennis Club:
Serve up some fun with the Tennis Club.
Members can become active while playing the game of tennis for the pursuit
of leisure and fitness. The club meets regularly on Sundays from 5
p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Recreation Center and, weather permitting, Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday afternoons at 4 p.m. at the outdoor tennis courts. To join the tennis club, contact club adviser Jamie Zanios

Theatre Club:
Try out for something new and go to auditions for
the fall and spring student plays at NIACC! Past performances include
Little Shop of Horrors, The Pajama Game, the Robber Bridegroom
and more.

Vocal Music:
If you like to sing, join the Concert Choir,
which is open to all students, or sign up for private voice lessons. You
might also try out for the NIACC Singers show choir, which performs locally
and takes a major tour every other year to such places as Florida or
California. You can also take part in Quodlibet, NIACC’s annual
variety show.

Young Democrats/Young Republicans:
Students who want to exercise their political
voice have a choice at NIACC! On a campus where political candidates
like Hillary Clinton, Rudy Giuliani and Barack Obama make campaign stops and
political figures like Congressman Tom Latham and Senator Tom Harkin hold
events, students may find opportunities to work with both local and national
campaigns. Whether you lean more toward the left or the right, get involved
with the Young Democrats Club or Young Republicans Club at NIACC.
