NIACC Show Pigs

The Agricultural Technology Division and its students are proud to be leaders in the production of barrows and gilts for 4-H and FFA Youth projects. NIACC has been producing Champion Pigs for fairs and swine shows since 1983. For the past twenty years, the majority of these pigs are sold in one of the "Pigs In the Purple Sales" held several times each year on the NIACC campus. The farm has produced more than 340 Champions, Reserve Champions and class winners at all levels of competition, with pigs selling 11 states. NIACC bred and raised show pigs are for sale year around.

Proven Production: All of the pigs offered for sale will have been raised at the NIACC Farm Lab. Our pigs have been successful at all levels of competition, from local youth shows to national swine shows. NIACC’s reputation for honest, high performing and highest quality show pigs is indisputable, with pigs selling into 11 different states. All of the pigs in the sale are sired by outstanding boars, which have a history of producing show winners and superior carcasses. NIACC students work with the agricultural technology staff and swine experts, to carefully select sires to be mated to proven sows to produce the pigs for each of these sales. In fact, many of the sows have produced past champions or are littermates to previous show winners.

The "Pigs In the Purple Sales", now in the nineteenth year, are sponsored by Agricultural Technology students at NIACC and provides many 4-H and FFA members the best opportunity to, obtain high quality show pigs for youth projects at reasonable prices. These sales also give our students learning opportunity to develop marketing skills through their involvement in all phases of planning and executing the sales. Students in Animal Science II class have sale management responsibilities.
