Coach Hergert is in his fifth year as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at NIACC. Hergert guided the 2005 pitching staff to the lowest ERA in the Rima Era. The staff featured two All-Region selections including the ICCAC Pitcher of the Year, Steve Salas, who was drafted in the 22nd round by the Anaheim Angels in the 2007 MLB draft.

Hergert also guided two more Trojan pitchers to All-Region honors in 2006. In 2007, Hergert help coached two more Trojan pitchers to All-Region honors including Tom Heithoff to ICCAC Conference Player of the Year.  Five Trojan pitchers have moved on to Division I schools under Hergert.

After his pitching career, Hergert spent the 2004 season as an assistant coach at his alma mater Mount Mercy College. He is also employed as Housing Head Resident and Co-Intramural Director.
