The NIACC Men's & Women's Cross Country Teams kicked off the season by training for a week in Colorado August 5-12. They ran in several National and State parks at a much greater altitude than what they were used to. The entire team reached the summit (14,000 feet) of Pike's Peak with five runners doing the round trip. They got started at 4:30 AM and most runners reached the top by 1 PM. The athletes who did the round trip completed the hike in 10 hours.  One way is roughly 12 miles: needless to say there were a lot of sore bodies.

Other trails run by the team included:

Pancake Rock
The Incline
Waldo
Garden of the Gods
Santa Fe Trail
