NIACC Trojan Cheer Squad

2007-2008 Rules & Guidelines

The North Iowa Area Community College Cheer Squad works to promote school spirit, support NIACC Athletics, and serve as student representatives of the college. All candidates must try out each year.

Selection procedures

All interested students must take part in a tryout with the coach for 10 possible spots. A physical and proof of insurance must be submitted as well as the application form before a student may tryout for cheerleading. All NIACC cheerleaders are expected to attend all games, clinics and participate in any fundraising set forth by the coach.

 Practices

Regular attendance and full participation is essential and expected. Please refer to the attendance policy for further details. Practice attire will consist of t-shirts, shorts, and proper shoes. NO jewelry will be permitted during practices or performances. The use of cell phones will not be tolerated during games or practices. Please turn them off before you arrive to any cheerleading function. No lotion should be applied before a game or practice and nails should be cut short. Hair should be out of your face and off of your shoulders. Tentative practice times will be determined. Keep this in mind when choosing classes.

 Attendance

Practice always begins on time. Being more than 15 minutes late constitutes a complete absence and counts toward the total allowed per semester. Each cheer squad member will be expected to notify the coach if not in attendance.

 Travel

NIACC Cheer Squad members will be cheering at home games and select away games.

Eligibility

In order to participate on the NIACC Cheer Squad, cheerleaders must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or above to remain eligible and must be in good standings with the college, faculty and staff. Voluntary or coach initiated termination of membership can be enforced if eligibility is not maintained.

Uniforms

NIACC cheerleading uniforms and poms will be checked out at the beginning of each season and checked in at the end of each season. Failure to turn in uniforms within a week of the end of the season will result in billing for the cost of the uniform. Any repairs that need to be done will be charged to that individual. Uniformity is important and so all cheerleaders will be expected to dress the same at games. A shoe style must be agreed upon by all squad members and the shoes must be purchased by the cheerleader.

Grade Checks

Grade checks will be enforced during the semester. Any excessive absences and/or poor effort will be addressed by the Coach and the Athletic Director.

Football season runs from September to November. Basketball season runs from November to March. All cheerleaders are required to be at every game.
