Mission Statement

The NIACC Softball staff will recruit, develop, and place people that will give us an opportunity to win each game we play.

We will recruit NCAA D-I and D-II caliber athletes that are passionate about softball and serious about academics.

We will develop our student-athletes through a year-around program of education and achievement that will be applied to, both, their academic and athletic endeavors.

We will work to help place our sophomore athletes in a 4-year college or university that best fits their academic and athletic goals.

Coaching Philosophy

To be successful on the field, we will have:

1. Highly skilled pitchers.
2. Fundamentally sound defensive skills and schemes.
3. An opportunistic offense built on high on-base percentage, situational hitting, and intelligent base-running.
4. Team members that understanding and relish their specific roles on the team.

Academic Development

Because time is taken away for softball development and games, we give time back for academic success. Trojan softball players are expect to adhere to our system of academic development. We require our student-athletes to submit bi-monthly academic progress reports, spend time in supervised study table sessions, and attend NIACC's Student Learning Center each week. These efforts and our players' grades are closely monitored.

Physical Development

NIACC softball players invest themselves in year-around skill development and strength & conditioning for enhanced performance and injury prevention on the field. In doing so our student-athletes adhere to individually designed programs to ensure positive and sustainable results. The performance programs are broken down into three phases: off-season, pre-season, and in-season. The overriding theme to each phase is improvement.

Environment is key. NIACC offers a brand new Rec Center, opening the Fall of 2008, and one of the top community college strength and conditioning facilities in the country. NIACC upgrades its facilities each year to keep up with the demands of a collegiate athletic program.

Schedule

We have a 20 game Fall schedule against 2-year and 4-year colleges around the Midwest. This prepares us for the competitive 50+ game schedule in Spring. Our Spring season begins in beautiful Cocoa, Florida where we will play 12 games during our week-long stay. Our regular season concludes with the Region XI tournament, followed by the NJCAA World Series.
