Lady Trojan Basketball PhilosophyLady Trojan basketball success is build on three fundamental principles. Number one is total team effort. The Lady Trojans have always emphasized the use of a deep roster to implement their full court offensive and defensive pressure game. The Lady Trojan coaches want to recruit players who have the mentality of wanting to contribute to the success of the team and not just individual recognition. Players learn early that to be an integral part of the team requires wanting to become a “team player.” The team concept extends beyond the basketball court with players planning many off the court social activities together. The second fundamental principle is an aggressive defensive style of play the has become characteristic of Lady Trojan basketball. The Lady Trojans basic defensive system is a man/man full court trapping defense. The coaching staff stresses that aggressive defense play creates offensive opportunities in “bunches.” NIACC players are coached to pressure the ball, take away passing lanes and crash the boards hard. The philosophy is to make the offense team HAVE TO BEAT the defense on every possession for 40 minutes. We will “gamble on defense” but we will never give up an easy basket. The third principle in the Lady Trojan basketball foundation is in our fast break and secondary fast break offensive. We will push the ball up the court and look for a “ numbers advantage” and a quick score. Our secondary fast break offense is the key in every possession. It will flow into our basic half court four -out,one- in offensive package which stresses breaking the defense down with player movement, ball reversal and dribble penetration by all five offensive players. Players are coached to be aggressive ball handlers and shooters. We want to get more than “our share” of the shots in every game. If you believe that you can fit into this, the Lady Trojan philosophy of playing basketball, we encourage you to contact the Lady Trojan coaching staff by e-mail at oertejoh@niacc.edu or call at 641-422-4316. Best of luck to you and your team this season. We hope you to hear from you. |
