NIACC Women's Basketball - A Proud History

With consistent, competitive play, the women's basketball program at NIACC has proven to be one of the better programs in the state and country. They have made several appearances at the National Tournament - placing as high as second - and have recorded winning season nearly every year since the sport began at NIACC in 1973.

Lady Trojan Basketball means fast-breaking offense and full-court "in your face" pressure defense. They play 30 regular season games against eight schools in the Iowa conference, plus games against out-of-state competition from Kansas, Missouri, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Illinois.

The team plays their games on a beautiful wooden parquet floor in a gymnasium seating approximately 2000 fans. In addition to the main gym, the players train in a spacious weight room which offers a full Nautilus circuit of 20 stations to athletes and an auxiliary gymnasium for both in- and off-season training. Locker rooms, an equipment room, an athletic room and coaches' offices complete the indoor athletic facilities.

The Lady Trojans are not only proud of their athletic ability, but also of their academic achievements. Players' names consistently appear on the Dean's List and the team has had numerous individuals receive Academic All-American and even Distinguished Academic All-American honors.

The coaching staff makes it a point to recruit North Iowa' s finest athletes in an effort to keep the community interest and involvement with the team's success. Athletes from all over have found NIACC to be an exciting place to begin their academic and athletic careers.

The NIACC women's basketball team competes at the NJCAA Division II level which enables the College to offer partial athletic scholarships to selected athletes. In addition, student-athletes may earn scholarships for academic achievement offered through the College.
