Welcome to
the official website of NIACC wrestling! NIACC competes in the
NJCAA, but boasts a schedule with many of the nation’s elite
NCAA Division I and II teams year in and year out.
NIACC is
located in Mason City, IA. Mason City and NIACC are small, but
are just a couple of hours north of Des Moines and south of
Minneapolis. Student athletes can enjoy the personal
attention of a small-town college as well as the benefits of a
metro area.
Head Coach
Richard Fergola and staff strive for a commitment to excellence
when looking for potential recruits, not just the most
successful athletes.
Expectations of the future are created by NIACC wrestling’s past
success. The NIACC wrestling program originated in 1967 and
survived until 1976. In those early years, the Trojans won a
national championship in 1973 and earned a record of 126-18-2.
Now, NIACC wrestling is heading back to the future to reclaim
its position as a national wrestling powerhouse. Success
follows wrestlers off the mats as well. The values of being a
member of the NIACC wrestling team are the values that will
remain forever.
“The
experience of being a wrestler at NIACC provides a lifetime of
rewards. It gives them pride, character and confidence,” Head
Coach Rich Fergola said. When things get tough in life, they
can come back to that experience of when it was tough in
wrestling. Add NIACC's approach to academics, and we produce
very well rounded individuals.”
In
recruiting, Head Coach Richard Fergola looks for wrestlers with
the attitude to match the team’s commitment to excellence. We
focus on academics first at NIACC,”Fergola said, and then
wrestling.” One-on-one attention will not end at the doors of
NIACC’s proposed new state-of-the-art recreational center. With
a small campus, coaches and faculty work together to make sure
student athletes succeed in all their collegiate endeavors.
NIACC prides itself on being a college that helps students get
where they want to go. |
