The Globe Gazette proudly presents A Mighty Fortress is Our Basement: Church Basement Ladies as they take the stage at the North Iowa Community Auditorium on the NIACC campus at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Sunday April 13, 2014. Tickets are $30 in advance. All tickets purchased on the day of the show and at the door are $35. This performance is part of the 2013–2014 Performing Arts and Leadership Series.
Take a trip to 1960 for the fourth and funniest installment yet of the Church Basement Ladies. All of the gals are back, plus the pastor whose fledgling romance has always inspired mixed reactions. Beverly is turning 15 and gets her first pair of high heels for confirmation. Karin is finally learning how to drive. Mrs. Snustad and Mrs. Gilmerson plan a food booth at the county fair to raise money. The Church Basement Ladies’ songs are always heartfelt and charming and the humor is family-friendly.
Church Basement Ladies, a celebration of the church basement kitchen and the women who work there, features four distinct characters and their relationships as they organize the food and the problems of a rural Minnesota church. From the elderly matriarch of the kitchen to the young bride-to-be learning the proper order of things, the book and music give us a touching, funny look at their lives as we see them handle a record breaking Christmas dinner, the funeral of a dear friend, a Hawaiian Easter Fundraiser, and a steaming hot July wedding. They stave off potential disasters, share and debate recipes, instruct the young, and keep the Pastor on due course while thoroughly enjoying, (and tolerating) each other.
Funny and down to earth, audiences will recognize these ladies as they begin to see the church year unfold from below the House of God. If you are looking for some funny, feel-good entertainment, A Mighty Fortress is Our Basement is the production for you.
