North Iowa Symphony Orchestra Presents Spring Concert

The North Iowa Symphony Orchestra will present a “Spring Concert” on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 in the North Iowa Community Auditorium at 7:30 pm.

Special guests for this concert will be the North Iowa Choral Society directed by Linda Ferjak.

The Chorus and the Orchestra will combine forces for performances of American repertoire. America the Beautiful arranged beautifully by Alice Jordan features an uplifting setting for chorus and orchestra that is performed at the annual Iowa All-State concert in November. A fiddle tune arrangement by Mack Willberg titled “Bile Them Cabbage Down” will be performed complete with fiddlers from NISO.

The North Iowa Symphony Orchestra conducted by Dennis Root will perform popular works from various periods of musical styles. The concert opens with Mozart’s masterpiece the Magic Flute Overture that will feature the orchestra’s wonderful woodwind section. A reading of the folk song “The Turtle Dove” arranged by G. Winston Cassler and written for the St. Olaf Orchestra will be performed. The March and Procession of Bacchus by L. Delibes with all of its majestic pageantry will begin the 2nd half of the concert. Along with, Josef Strauss’ fiery polka francaise Feuerfest! The concert will end with a reading of the 1st movement from the ever popular Symphony in B Minor “The Unfinished Symphony” by Franz Schubert.

Tickets are available at the door for $5. Doors will open at 7:00 pm. The North Iowa Symphony Orchestra and the North Iowa Choral Society are both sponsored by the North Iowa Area Community College and are open to qualified musicians in the north Iowa area.
