Extreme Makeover: College Edition; Public voting opens at NOON April 27

Since 2006, North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) has been providing adult students with an opportunity to return to college at no cost. It’s a unique makeover that changes lives.

Extreme Makeover: College Edition is a contest where two lucky winners receive an entire year of free tuition, textbooks and more. There will also be three finalists who win a $1,000 scholarship to NIACC for the 2014-2015 academic year.

Stephanie Hengesteg, winner from 2013, said, “I am so happy I won this contest. This is the best opportunity and I am so grateful that NIACC does this.”

Tammy Thompson, the other winner from 2013 said, “I’m so excited to win! I have been working 25-plus years in jobs from washing dishes at restaurants to managing a rental store. I am changing my path!”

Applicants for the 2014-15 school year have been interviewed and a list of finalists has been selected. Each applicant submitted a 250-word essay explaining why their life needs or deserves an educational makeover.

To read the finalists’ essays and vote for your favorite two entries, visit Public voting is open from noon April 27 to noon May 9.

New this year: finalists will walk in the North Iowa Band Festival parade with the winners being announced after the parade.
