Student Activities
Student Job Shadow – An individual student or a small group of students meet and shadow local business people to learn more about careers. They observe various aspects of a business to better understand work-based application of career, education and soft skills needed. Job shadows last from 2-4 hours and are an excused absence from school. NIACC Career Connections will work with your counselor and inform your school of the job shadow date, time, and place. Transportation is the student’s responsibility.
Student Worksite Tour – Tours provide students an opportunity to interact with professionals, learn about their organization, career opportunities, educational requirements, and soft skills required while obtaining firsthand experience at the worksite. Tour group size should accommodate all students so they are not crowded and can see and hear the tour guide.
Student Internship – These are hands-on work experiences at the worksite for students in grades 11 and 12. They typically take 45-90 hours to complete and must include an academic component. Internships can be paid or non-paid and for high school and/or college credit or for non-credit.
Student Other Experience – These experiences allow students to participate in work-based learning activities in a variety of ways including career exploration that exposes students to a variety of careers and life skills.
