Career Assessment
Discover enables you to do a quick assessment of your interests, abilities, and job values. You can use all or single parts of the program to assist you in your career exploration or transition. You must be a current NIACC student or Alumni to use this program.
With Discover you can:
- Start planning your future
- Learn more about yourself
- Explore occupations, schools, scholarships, majors, job search, career planning and military options.
- Select a career direction and identify a college major and much more
Steps to using Discover:
- Obtain your User ID form the Career Services Coordinator by calling 641-422-4292 or send an email to
kunzmtin@niacc.edu.
- Log in at Discover and enter your provided User ID and password
- Select the "inventories" tab and complete the Interest, Abilities and Values inventories.
- The "Inventory Summary" will list suggested career areas
- Using the provided internet links you can view additional information about work tasks, related occupations, training, salary and more.
Not a current NIACC student or Alumni?
Visit Choices administered by the Iowa College Student Aide Commission.
All Iowa users enter Choices through
www.ihaveaplaniowa.gov to create an online portfolio.
- Select the appropriate tab; "College Students/Adults" or "Parents"
- Select "First Time User" and enter the required information to create a portfolio.
- If a portfolio has already been created, select "Returning User" under the appropriate tab at www.ihaveaplaniowa.gov

a convenient, alphabetical listing of various types of majors that helps you
connect majors with careers.
- Select either the PDF or HTML version
- An outline of common career areas, typical employers, and strategies designed to maximize career opportunities.
- Choose "Links" to find a list of websites that provide information about listed majors and related careers.
