Career Assessment

Discover enables you to evaluate your interests, abilities, and job values. The program can assist you in your career exploration or transition. You must be a current NIACC student to use this program.


With Discover you can:


Steps to using Discover:

  1. Obtain your User ID form the Career Services Coordinator by calling 641-422-4292 or send an email to kunzmtin@niacc.edu.
  2. Visit the Discover website and enter the User ID and password you were provided and create a password of your choosing
  3. Select the "inventories" tab and complete the Interest, Abilities and Values inventories.
  4. The "Inventory Summary" will list suggested career areas.
  5. Using the embedded internet links, view additional information about work tasks, related occupations, training, salary and more.

Not a current NIACC student?


Visit Choices administered by the Iowa College Student Aide Commission.


All Iowa users enter Choices through www.ihaveaplaniowa.gov to create an online portfolio.

  1. Select the appropriate tab; "College Students/Adults" or "Parents"
  2. Select "First Time User" and enter the required information to create a portfolio.
  3. If a portfolio has already been created, select "Returning User" under the appropriate tab at www.ihaveaplaniowa.gov

View What Can I Do With This Major…?, a convenient, alphabetical listing of various types of majors that helps you connect majors with careers.

  1. Select either the PDF or HTML version
  2. View common career areas, typical employers, and strategies designed to maximize career opportunities.
  3. Choose "Links" to find a list of websites that provide information about listed majors and related careers.
