75-Hour Nurse Aide Training

Notice of attendance requested two weeks prior to the start of each class to allow time for books and handouts to be ordered.  A minimum of eight students are required to run each class.  Payment of tuition is due one week after each course meets.

Corequisite: HSC-174, Nurse Aide Clinical.  This 75-hour nurse aide course has been designed to meet the training requirements of The Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987 (OBRA) for aides working in nursing facilities (NF) and skilled nursing facilities (SNF). Emphasis in the course is on students achieving a basic level of knowledge and demonstrating skills to provide safe, effective resident care.  The course has been developed in six units of study.  The theory portion includes 30 hours of classroom time and 15 hours of laboratory practice.  (30-0)

Nurse Aide Written Test

To arrange for the written test, contact 641-422-4358 or 1-888-466-4222 ext. 4358,

a minimum of three days before the desired testing date.

 

The Nurse Aide Written Test will be given in the NIACC Student Learning Center (SLC)

in the Beem Center. The Nurse Aide may take the test during SLC hours on

the pre-arranged day. The Nurse Aide must bring a picture ID to be admitted for testing.

 

Prepayment is required. The cost of the written test is $45. A check payable to NIACC

should be sent prior to the testing session to the North Iowa Area Community College, ATTN: Continuing Education, 500 College Drive, Mason City, IA, 50401.

Nurse Aide Skills

A state mandated skills test for nurse aides to become certified and placed on the Iowa Direct Care Worker Registry. Candidate must arrive during the first hour of each test session. Late arrivals may be allowed to test at the discretion of the evaluator.  Candidate must bring picture ID and a watch with second hand.  Course instructor/employer cannot test candidate.  Tuition and fees are $75.
