Position Title
Student Support Services Counselor/Supplemental Instruction
Coordinator/Instructor (PSS/5)
Job Summary
Provide counseling/advising to Student Support Services participants.
Responsible for recruiting, training, and coordination for the Supplemental
Instruction services of the SSS project.
Responsibilities
Coordinate the administration of comprehensive financial, academic, and
personal development assessments to SSS participants. Assist SSS
participants in interpreting assessment data and developing Individual
Progress Plans. Team teach Strategies for Academic Success, Success Seminar,
and workshops as needed with other staff. Provide personal, career, and
transfer counseling along with academic advising to individuals and groups.
Evaluate the success of the individual participants and provide intervention
when necessary. Identify appropriate courses for SSS sponsored supplemental
instruction sessions and implement SI sessions in conjunction with the
tutoring program. Contact and assist SSS participants who are identified in
the Early Alert system. Maintain student records in compliance with federal
mandates. Facilitate professional growth through participation in
appropriate organizations and conferences. Work with the Director to
coordinate the SSS newsletter.
Perform in a manner which strengthens the coordination and cooperation of all
organizational components of the College, including opportunities for student
recruitment.
Qualifications
Masters degree in Counseling, Higher Education, College Student Personnel,
Rehabilitation Counseling or a related field required.

Salary based on experience. Fringe benefits of Blue Cross/Blue Shield major

retirement benefits as provided by Social Security and Iowa Public Employees’
Retirement System (IPERS) or TIAA-CREF.

The College
North Iowa Area Community College has the distinction of
being the first public two-year college in the state of Iowa, having been
established in 1918 as Mason City Junior College. NIACC is an integral part of
the educational, cultural, and economic foundation of the nine-county region
it serves. The College operates a main campus in Mason City, a progressive
community of 30,000 located halfway between Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Des
Moines, Iowa. The main campus encompasses over 500 acres of land, including
contemporary facilities, an agricultural technology center, athletic
facilities, and lakeside student housing. Mason City and surrounding

Workforce Development Center
Iowa Workforce Development in partnership with NIACC and
the Iowa Department of Human Services provide oversight and administration of
federal, state, and local Workforce programs. Services are delivered
throughout a seven-county area in North Iowa with offices in Forest City,
Charles City, and Mason City. The Mason City Workforce Center was established
in September 1996 to provide one-stop employment services to employers and job
seekers.
