POSITION TITLE
Composition and/or Speech Instructor
Communication Division (Full-Time, 9-month contract)
JOB SUMMARY
Provide instruction in freshman composition and
speech sequence. Ideal candidate might also teach developmental writing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct effective instruction in all assigned areas.
Maintain current course syllabi and outlines. Participate in the periodic review
and evaluation of instructional programs. Prepare and submit all required
reports related to the instructional task. Assist in the budgeting process as
requested by the Division Head. Assist in the scheduling of classes as requested
by the Division Head. Participate in meetings and committees as designated to
promote the development of the total college. Work with other faculty/staff and
administration as assigned to promote the total college and assist the College
in its marketing activities. Assume responsibility for equipment, inventory,
safety, and security of assigned classrooms and laboratories. Available to
students, including posted office hours. Effectively participate in the College
and Division's assessment initiatives. Perform in a manner which strengthens the
coordination and cooperation of all organizational components of the College,
including opportunities for student recruitment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree with major preparation in subject matter area; expected to
meet the criteria of the institutional quality faculty development plan;
well-developed teaching skills; committed to the community college philosophy;
sensitive to and supportive of cultural diversity. Willing to travel between,
and teach at off-campus instructional locations, both day and evening, if
needed. Ability to use computer applications in subject area instruction.
Willingness and ability to develop and deliver ICN and WEB courses. Perform
related duties as assigned.
SALARY/BENEFITS Salary based on education and experience.

The College
North Iowa Area Community College has the distinction of being the first public two-year college in the state of Iowa, having been established in 1918 as Mason City Junior College. NIACC is an integral part of the educational, cultural, and economic foundation of the nine-county region it serves. The College operates a main campus in Mason City, a progressive community of 30,000 located halfway between Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Des Moines, Iowa. The main campus encompasses over 500 acres of land, including contemporary facilities, an agricultural technology center, athletic facilities, and lakeside student housing. Mason City and surrounding communities provide a strong manufacturing and retail base with outstanding schools and cultural and recreational opportunities.
