Position Title
Grant Writer/Fund Development Specialist
(PSS/6)
Job Summary
Responsible for the identification,
development, writing and submissions of grants to support the college
mission and the foundation. Will have direct responsibility for the annual
fund of the college, increasing participation and contributions. Responsible
for assisting in the planning and development of projects that align with
the College's mission, goals, and priorities as identified by the
Institutional Advancement team. Also responsible for assisting and
supporting the subsequent pursuit of external funding (either public or
private) for college projects. Support the missions and goals of the College
by promoting public understanding and recognition of its programs and
services, staff and students in order to instill confidence among its
constituencies and generate good will and support for the College. Work as
part of a team for Institutional Advancement, assist in other areas of need
including events planned and delivered by Institutional Advancement and the
NIACC Foundation.
Responsibilities
Identify, research, monitor, and establish relations with
public and private funding sources and identify grant opportunities for the
college and foundation to meet the mission. Insure grant applications are
completed and submitted for funding to meet timing requirements from current
and future sources. Disseminate notices of potential funding opportunities
to the College as appropriate. Manage all aspects of the Annual Fund to
support the College. Assist in the direction and achievement of the
goals and objectives set forth by the Foundation Board and consistent with
those of the College. Fully understand and utilize the college computer
database system to help prepare reports, tracking, updating records and
using it to benefit Institutional Advancement's efforts to support the
college. Learn complete program to provide backup on receipting and other
aspects of the program when other staff is not available. Provide metrics to
assess progress in reaching goals and keep those up to date. Assist with and
attend Foundation or other board meetings as needed. Assure knowledge and
backup capabilities exist to support scholarship and other activities of
Institutional Advancement. Lead, assist and support all aspects of proposal
development and assist in all levels of donor development. Gain full
knowledge of planned giving to support and assist in those efforts. Perform
in a manner which strengthens the coordination and cooperation of all
organizational components of the College, including opportunities for
student recruitment.
Qualifications
Required: Documented success in
identifying, writing and securing competitive federal grants. Bachelor's degree required. Demonstrated
skills in written and oral communication. Successful planning, development
and/or research experience. Knowledge of public and private funding sources.
Ability to plan, create, and produce events and materials in a timely and
cost-effective manner. Ability to work with a wide variety of people.
Preferred: Understanding and appreciation for community college role. Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects. Excellent interpersonal skills. Word processing and computer skills. Experience in fundraising.

Salary based on experience. Fringe

Social Security and Iowa Public Employees’ Retirement System (IPERS) or
TIAA-CREF.

The College
North Iowa Area Community College has the distinction of
being the first public two-year college in the state of Iowa, having been
established in 1918 as Mason City Junior College. NIACC is an integral part
of the educational, cultural, and economic foundation of the nine-county
region it serves. The College operates a main campus in Mason City, a
progressive community of 30,000 located halfway between Minneapolis,
Minnesota, and Des Moines, Iowa. The main campus encompasses over 500 acres
of land, including contemporary facilities, an agricultural technology
center, athletic facilities, and lakeside student housing. Mason City and

Workforce Development Center
Iowa Workforce Development in partnership
with NIACC and the Iowa Department of Human Services provide oversight and
administration of federal, state, and local Workforce programs.
Services are delivered throughout a seven-county area in North Iowa with
offices in Forest City, Charles City, and Mason City. The Mason City
Workforce Center was established in September 1996 to provide one-stop
employment services to employers and job seekers.
