Position Title
Server Administrator/Computer
Technician
(PSS/6)
Job Summary
Design, install,
administer, and optimize College server technology and related components as
necessary. This includes ensuring the availability of client/server
applications, configuring all new implementations, and developing processes
and procedures for on-going management of the server environment. Where
applicable, assist in overseeing the physical security, integrity and safety
of the data center. Support and maintain in-house computer systems,
desktops, and peripherals, including installing, diagnosing, repairing,
maintaining, and upgrading hardware and software while ensuring optimal
workstation performance. Maintain a high standard of customer service
philosophy and responsiveness to faculty and staff technology needs.
Responsibilities
Server Administrator
Serve
as primary contact for server and server virtualization needs and issues.
Coordinate and collaborate with technical and end user staff to ensure
availability, reliability, and scalability of servers to meet business
demands. Act as project lead in the design and
review of new server systems, applications, and hardware; conduct research
on options and capacity planning as needed. Develop strategies for
client/server implementations; architect the infrastructure required to
support those strategies. Establish and implement policies, procedures, and
technologies to ensure server security. Perform file system configuration and management;
define and monitor server backups and recovery procedures. Plan and implement server upgrades, maintenance
fixes, and vendor-supplied patches. Recommend and execute modifications to
server environment in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and
performance. Monitor and test system performance and provide
performance statistics and reports. Develop and maintain training materials and server
documentation.
Computer Technician
Coordinate desktop management functions including
imaging, remote management, policies, automated installation and updates
for computer labs and end user systems. Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and
resolution of PC problems for end users; recommend and implement corrective
action s as needed. Install, configure, and test end user workstation
hardware, networked peripheral devices, and associated software products. Accurately document instances of hardware failure,
repair, installation, and removal. Provide training and support to end users and
staff on computer operation and other issues. Maintain appropriate records of inventory and
equipment repairs and costs of technology-related equipment.
General
Work cooperatively with technical support staff to
perform the above duties. Communicate appropriately and effectively
with supervisor, co-workers, staff, and public. Perform in a manner which strengthens the
coordination and cooperation of all organizational components of the
College, including opportunities for student recruitment.
Qualifications
Two year post-secondary
education required, four year degree preferred, plus two years of experience
in a Microsoft Windows Server environment. Two years experience with current
Windows Server Operating systems and a general knowledge of storage
technologies (e.g. SAN or NAS) and Active Directory Experience installing,
configuring, and maintaining server hardware and associated network and
storage equipment. Experience with server virtualization technology and
server performance tuning and monitoring tools would be beneficial. Two
years practical experience in computer desktop management and support
expected with demonstrated skills for automation practices including
imaging, group policies, and remote management. Experience with
installation, maintenance and repair of personal computer hardware,
operating systems, network connections, and software is expected. Experience
with Windows operating system preferred. Interpersonal skills are a must in
in order to assure the ability to relate well with persons at all levels of
computer competency. Due to the unlimited access to the computer systems, a
high degree of confidentiality is required.

Salary based on experience. Fringe benefits of Blue
