Try a New and Interesting Learning Experience at NIACC

Spring 2008

The NIACC faculty have created a new and interesting learning opportunity for students. A “Learning Community” is a related pair of courses that students can take during the same semester to enrich their learning experience. For example, in a recent semester, students enrolled in Engineering Problems had an opportunity to take a Composition course where they could write about engineering topics.

Benefits of a Learning Community:

You will have an interesting learning experience, often including common course assignments
You will share two courses with the same group of students and get to know each other well
In many cases, the paired courses are courses that you will want to take anyway for your major and/or to meet general education requirements.

Theme: Students who enroll in this pair of courses will (1) begin to learn how to "think like an engineer," (2) have extensive opportunity to develop their communication skills using engineering topics, and (3) be introduced to the concept of entrepreneurship as a strategy for solving problems.
