General English I

Course Description:
This grammar workbook provides the student practice in constructing effective sentences and recognizing nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. The Short Stories paperback includes 23 short stories which are grouped in emphasis under plot, setting, and character. The "Modern Fiction" handout explains the literary elements of action, character, point of view, setting, and style. An additional five pages are included where the student applies this knowledge to examples.

Objective:
The student will complete all nine units of the grammar book including the practice exercises, cumulative reviews, a test over each unit, and the final posttest. In the Short Stories text, the student will review the short story information on pages 7, 65, and 123,read the "Modern Fiction" handout, and pass a brief quiz. He/she will then read six short stories, two from each section of the Short Stories text, plus complete "A Closer Look" questions after each of the stories. Sixty percent accuracy is required to pass. Retests are required on units failed. The score from failed test will be averaged with retest score. Short story scores will be determined by the completeness of the answers to the questions following each of the stories. If necessary, additional work will be required until the 60% level is reached.

General English II

Course Description:
This grammar workbook provides the student practice in constructing effective sentences and recognizing verb tenses, coordinate conjunctions, modifiers, and parallel structure. The poetry paperback includes100 poetry selections by such authors as Frost, Giovanni, Lawrence, Shakespeare, Ginsberg, Besho, and Millay, grouped in seven thematic categories.

Objective:
The student will complete all seven units of the grammar book including the practice exercises, cumulative reviews, a test over each unit, and the final posttest. In the Poetry text, the student will choose one poem from each of the seven units, completing the questions, "A Closer Look," after each poem chosen. Sixty percent accuracy is required to pass. Retests required on units failed. Score from failed test will be averaged with retest score. Poetry scores will be determined by the completeness of the answers to the questions following each of the selected poems. If necessary, additional work will be required until the 60% level is reached.

Course Description:
This course will introduce the student to the short story, novel, poetry, and drama.

Objective:
The student will complete assigned work in the short story, novel, poetry, and drama units. Sixty percent accuracy is required on each written assignment to pass. If necessary, additional work will be required until the 60% level is reached. Sixty percent is required on quizzes to pass. Retests are required on quizzes failed. Course Description:

Basic Algebra

Course Description:
This course is designed to prepare students for taking tests and pursuing further education or training that requires a knowledge of basic algebra. Step-by-step instruction in the fundamentals of algebra is followed by practice sections to sharpen skills learned.

World Geography

Course Description:

Course Description:

American History II

Course Description:
This course provides a solid 1887 - 1991 history curriculum by use of lively tales of real people and real events. Timelines and maps are included which places the stories in clear chronological and geographical context.

Objective:
The student will complete Volumes III and IV of the series, American Adventures - People Making History. "Chapter Checks" will be completed at the end of each chapter. "Looking Back" and "Skills" questions will be completed at the end of each unit followed by a unit exam. Sixty percent accuracy is required to pass with retests required on exams failed. Score from failed test will be averaged with retest score.

World History

Course Description:
This course provides information concerning ancient history to 1993,
including the Industrial Revolution and the Age of Imperialism.

Objective:
The student will complete Book One and Two of World History for a Global Age. Following each chapter the student will write out and hand in the answers to the worksheet exercises. Upon completion of the chapter exercises from each unit, the student will take the unit exam. Sixty percent accuracy is required on all eight unit exams with retests required for failed tests. Retest score will be averaged with original exam score.

Course Description:
