Welcome to North Iowa Area Community College, General Educational Development (GED)

Why get your GED?

A high school diploma or equivalent is the first step to a better paying job, higher education, and more opportunities!

We want adults who are seeking a high school education to realize that graduation is not an impossible dream, but a realistic goal!

The classes are TUITION FREE with an optional book fee, the only cost to students is the $75.00 GED testing fee.

NIACC offers GED classes in several North Iowa locations.

Why have others chosen NIACC for their educational goals?

"I like NIACC GED classes because there are people of all age groups helping each other and working together toward the same goal.  I am 49-years-old and can finally say I've got my diploma!"  ~Robbyn

"NIACC makes me feel like an individual person, not a number.  It has made me realize that what I think, I can say, because it's worth hearing." ~Virginia

In our GED classrooms, instructors work hard to assist persons with their individual needs. Classes are provided that tailor instruction to what students need to know to pass their tests.

GED classes are open to anyone 17 or over who is not enrolled in high school and would like to improve in the academic areas of language arts, social studies, science, and math at the pre-collegiate level.  Anyone 17 must bring parental consent with them to class.  The instructor will include this in your file.  If you are 17 or 18 an official drop letter from your last high school attended must be presented during your first visit to a GED class.

The GED contains a series of 5 tests persons are required to pass in order to graduate.

The subject areas included are:

1. Language Arts, Writing              120 minutes allowed on test
2. Language Arts, Reading              65 minutes allowed on test
3. Social Studies                            70 minutes allowed on test
4. Science                                     80 minutes allowed on test
5. Mathematics                              90 minutes allowed on test

There are practice tests available in the classroom to determine a student’s readiness before beginning formal GED testing.  Practice tests must be taken and passed before you can take the GED tests.

GED test registration and administration are available on the NIACC campus in the Student Learning Center, Beem Center, Room 103 during scheduled hours.

An appointment is required before you can take your first test. Please call 641.422.4266 or 1.888.GO NIACC, ext. 4266 to make an appointment in order to complete registration.
