major performance each semester. This ensemble is open to all NIACC students and community

North Iowa Symphony Orchestra

members from the North Iowa area. This group generally performs 3 times a year, with one concert
being for the children of the area elementary schools. Membership in NISO is by audition.
NIACC Jazz Ensemble
This group concentrates on improvisation, swing interpretation, and jazz repertoire
from 1930 to the present in rehearsals twice each week. Presenting one or two major concerts
each year, as well as hosting the NIACC Jazz Festival, membership in the NIACC Jazz Ensemble is also by audition.
Charter Membership of the North Iowa Choral Society (NICS) was selected from over 100 singers
who auditioned from April - August of 1994. Rehearsals then began in September, with 32 vocalists presenting
the premiere performance on May 4, 1995. More voices were added each year until the group numbered 44
voices for the spring concert in 2004. Robert A. Davis, founding director, retired in 2001, at which time Jayson
Ryner assumed the director's position. In addition to presenting an annual concert each spring and singing at
various churches, NICS is available for other engagements. The group has performed at the Iowa Choral Directors'
Summer Convention, the Choral Symposium, the Christmas KCMR Live concert, and the "Miss Shirley Jones Christmas Show" on November 30, 2002.
