North Iowa Area Community College head football coach Scott Strohmeier resigned today and will be named the new head football coach at Iowa Western Community College.
“I want to thank Mike Morrison, Karen Pierson and Dan Mason for this unbelievable opportunity that they gave me three years ago. It was an extremely difficult decision to leave because of the great people that I’ve built relationships with here. My experiences over the past three years have been some of the best, both professionally and personally, in my life. I’m at a crossroads in my career and I had to take advantage of this incredible opportunity,” Strohmeier said. “I’ve enjoyed watching the program grow leaps and bounds over the past three years, and I’m sure the next coach will be able to take the program even higher to the next level. We’ve had a great off season, and I’m confident that our core group of student athletes will continue the tradition of football success at NIACC next season.”
Coach Strohmeier has made great strides since arriving at NIACC in 2005. After a 2-6 record in his initial season, he guided the Trojans to back-to-back 7-4 marks, culminating in Graphic Edge Bowl appearances in both 2006 and 2007.
“Coach Strohmeier has brought a great passion and dedication to our football program over the last three years. His efforts along with those of his staff and the young men in the program have helped us to continue the rich tradition of excellence that is synonymous with Trojan football,” said Dan Mason, NIACC athletic director.
During his career at NIACC, the Trojans finished in the top 20 among National Junior College Athletic Association football programs, placing 20th in 2006 and 14th in 2007.
“Coach Strohmeier has been an incredible asset to the College’s football program in promoting both academic excellence and a winning tradition. We wish him the best in his future endeavors,” Dr. Michael Morrison, NIACC president, said.
Mason said that a national search for NIACC’s next head football coach will begin immediately. The NIACC football program has been in existence since the 1940s and has had a handful of players make the professional ranks after they left the Trojan program, including current Baltimore Ravens offensive lineman Marshal Yanda.
“We’re confident that, given our record and reputation, we’ll attract a quality pool of candidates for the head football coaching position,” Mason said.
