North Iowa Area Community College’s volleyball team honored October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a Breast Cancer Awareness during a recent home match. The “Dig Pink” themed match raised $2,000, with all proceeds going to The Side Out Foundation, a breast cancer education and research group. Cancer survivors were admitted to the match for free.
“I am very happy with the outcome of our Dig Pink event,” Mary Jo Vrba, NIACC head volleyball coach, said. “The atmosphere was wonderful; we had a great turnout and were successful in raising $2,000 for breast cancer education and research. It’s something I hope we can continue to do every year.”
“Dig Pink” t-shirts were sold will all proceeds going to The Side Out Foundation as well. Plus, a “Kiss a Pig” contest resulted in two “lucky” winners as both Josh Byrnes, industrial division chair, and Mary Jo Vrba, head volleyball coach, puckered up to the pig.
The NIACC volleyball team beat Wartburg JV 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-17) at the “Dig Pink” match.
