North Iowa Area Community College will hold the NIACC Winter Softball Camps in January – Catcher Camp on Sunday, January 10; Pitching Camp on Sunday, January 24; and Lefty/Slapper Camp on Sunday, January 31. The camps are for girls in eighth grade through high school and run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Participants in the camps will receive a free t-shirt and instruction from NIACC Softball coaching staff and current college players.
Catcher Camp focuses on advanced receiving, blocking, fielding and throwing techniques. Participants will learn the skills involved in bunt coverage, covering home plate, pitch calling and on-field leadership. All participants should bring catcher’s gear, mitt, softball or sweatpants and a towel.
Pitching Camp provides a comprehensive explanation, demonstration and practice of proper mechanics for each pitcher as well as an advanced warm-up routine for enhanced performance and success. Participants will learn how to throw movement pitches such as rise, drop, curve, screw and change. All participants should bring a catcher.
Lefty/Slapper Camp will teach footwork, timing, swing path, soft-slapping, hard-slapping, power-slapping and drag bunting. This is the ultimate camp for speedy athletes looking to maximize their offensive potential from the left-side of the plate and learn advanced speed skills and base stealing.
Registration for each camp costs $50. To register, call 641-422-4986 or toll-free 1-888-GO NIACC, ext. 4986 or email Coach Tyler Sisco at siscotyl@niacc.edu.
