Nine student athletes committed to North Iowa Area Community College for the 2010-2011 men’s basketball season:  Codie Adams, Marcus Baumler, Nathan Brandt, Nathan Buchheit, Matt Dove, Kendale Dunn, Ricky Slaughter, Chris Throne and Brandon Wood.

“This group of recruits will bring something different to our program that will fit nicely to our style and work well with the players that we have returning.  We are excited to add these players to the group we have coming back,” Mark Mohl, NIACC men’s basketball head coach, said.

Adams, 5’9”, played in Camanche, Iowa.  He averaged 19.1 points and 5.7 assists per game.  Adams was first team All-Eastern Iowa, first team All-Big East, first team All-Area and third team All-State.

“Codie will fit in very well with our style of play.  He is very good in the open floor.  Codie has very good quickness which will allow him to pressure the basketball,” Mohl said.

Baumler, 6’6”, played in North Fayette, Iowa.  He averaged 12.3 points per game, 7.9 rebounds per game and 3.8 blocks per game.  He was named second team All-Conference.

“Marcus has really come on in the last two years.  His best basketball is ahead of him.  His ability to block shots will be very valuable to our pressing style of play,” Mohl said.

Brandt, 6’4”, played in Burlington, Wisc.  He averaged 10.1 points per game in high school.

“Nate played in a very good league and has a huge upside.  He fits well into our style.  His ability to shoot the basketball will be a big benefit for us.  His best basketball is ahead of him,” Mohl said.

Buchheit, 6’3”, played in Pella, Iowa.  He averaged 13.2 points per game and had a 49% field goal average.  Buchheit was second team All-State.

“We are very excited to add Nathan to our recruiting class.  He is a very versatile player who comes from a great program.  He fits very well into our style of play,” Mohl said.

Dove, 6’5”, played in Dike-New Hartford, Iowa.  He averaged 12.9 points per game, 6.1 rebounds per game and made 31 three-point shots.  Dove was named first team All-Conference as well as first team All-District.

“Matt has a huge upside.  At 6’5”, he is very athletic and long.  His ability to shoot the three will really help us,” Mohl said.

Dunn, 6’7”, played in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.  He was first team All-Lake Erie Conference.

“Kendale has a tremendous upside and with his height and length he’ll really be valuable either on the front of our presses or on the back of the presses.  He runs the floor extremely well and is the type of athlete that fits our style well.  We are fortunate to get a player of Kendale’s talent,” Mohl said.

Slaughter, 6’0”, also played in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.  He was named second team All-Lake Erie Conference.

“Ricky is a combo guard who can play more than one spot for us.  He is explosive and athletic, and he’ll be able to defend the quick guards in our league.  We look forward to having Ricky in our program,” Mohl said.

Throne, 6’3”, played in Lake Mills, Iowa.  He averaged 21.8 points per game, six rebounds per game and 2.7 assists per game.  Throne was named first team All-State, first team All-North Iowa Conference, Albert Lea Tribune Player of the Year and on the Mason City Globe Gazette team.

“Chris was one of the top notch players in northern Iowa.  His ability to stretch the defense with his shooting range will be very valuable.  His shooting ability will open up driving lanes.  Chris is also an excellent rebounder.,” Mohl said.

Wood, 6’2”, played in Rockford, Iowa.  He averaged 23.8 points per game, 5.9 rebounds per game, 2.5 steals per game and made 62 three-point goals.  Wood was named first team All-Corn Bowl Conference as well as second team All-State.

“Brandon has had a tremendous career and is an excellent shooter.  His ability to stretch the defense will be a tremendous asset,” Mohl said.
