The North Iowa Area Community College women's and men's track and field teams sent six athletes to compete at the NJCAA National Championships in Hutchinson, Kan. At the event, Kalyn Kruckenberg, of Mason City, Iowa, earned US Citizen All-American honors in the 5K, and Brandon Leibold, of Ames, Iowa, earned US Citizen All-American honors in the 10K and the 5K. To qualify for US Citizen All-American honors, the athlete must be one of the top six Americans in the race.
Two school records were also broken at the NJCAA National Championships. Sammy Nelson, of Lake Mills, Iowa, broke the 400H record with the time of 1:06.62, finishing 13th, and Leibold smashed the 10K record with the time of 32:31.10 (32:43.41 was the previous record), finishing 10th.
Konnie Keifer, of Garner, Iowa, recorded a personal best in the 10K and finished 18th. Erin Lynn, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, battled a hip injury and finished 19th in the 10K. Casey Robertson, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, competed in the 3000m Steeplechase and finished 13th. Kruckenberg finished 11th in the 10K and 9th in the 5K. Leibold finished 13th in the 5K.
