Seven Golfers Committed to NIACC for 2010-2011 Season
The North Iowa Area Community College Men’s and Women’s golf teams are excited to announce the signing of seven North Iowa golfers for the 2010-2011 golf season. “I’m always looking to get the best local talent to compete in the tough Region XI conference and I feel this group of players is going to battle for that championship,” said Chris Frenz, NIACC golf coach.
The Trojan men’s golf team signed the following five members to join the NIACC team for 2010-2011:
Bryan Berte Algona-Garrigan;
Adam Brinkman Clear Lake
Tanner Rollefson Clear Lake
Harrison Webb Clear Lake
Brandon Wood Rockford
“Brinkman, Rollefson, and Webb were members of a solid golf program at Clear Lake and all helped their team achieve great results,” said Frenz. “I look forward to their leadership both on and off the course.”
Berte also hails from a successful program at Algona-Garrigan, which just wrapped up their season with a state tournament win. “Berte’s family is very dedicated to the game of golf, much like he is,” said Frenz. “I can’t wait to see his game against college competition.”
Wood brings additional excitement to the NIACC campus since he will be a member of two NIACC sport teams - golf and basketball. “I’m excited for Wood because he’s going to get a chance that a lot of student athletes don’t get – playing both college golf and college basketball,” Frenz said. “I think Wood will fit right in with the golf team. He’s got the drive and focus to succeed in both sports.”
These five new signees will join sophomore members: Kade Jones, Garner; Cole Muhlenbruch, Thornton; Sean Murray, Waterloo-Columbus, Conor Heiden, Denison, and Zach Plathe, Algona.
The Trojan women’s golf team has received commitments from Brianna Nelson, Glenville, Minnesota and Shelby Tapp, Hampton. “Nelson and Tapp will be welcome additions to the NIACC women’s golf program,” coach Frenz said. “Nelson is coming off an injury but is very excited to get into college golf. Tapp is a hard worker, very athletic and will do well here at NIACC.”
Nelson and Tapp will join a core team of lady golfers that include National Tournament qualifier, Cristina Monson, Clear Lake, and team mates Taylor Evenson, Osage; Kaley Rima, Oelwein; and Cortney Monson, Clear Lake. “The NIACC golf program continues to move in a direction that I’m very pleased with,” Frenz said.
