The NIACC Track and Field program will compete in its first meet in over 30 years. The Trojan men and women will be at the Minnesota State Alumni Open in Mankato, Minnesota this Saturday. The program, under the direction of Head Coach Curtis Vais, is in its first season of competition after being restarted in the 2005-2006 school year.
This is the second time NIACC has had a track and field program. NIACC Men’s and Women’s Track and Field was dropped as a varsity sport after the 1975 season. Under the direction of Head Coach Arlo Stoltenberg the Trojans won three consecutive regional championships between 1973 and 1975.
The Trojans will compete in five indoor meets leading up to the Regional Indoor Championships on February 25 in Greencastle, Indiana. National qualifiers will then compete at the NJCAA National Championships on March 3 and 4 in Manhattan, Kansas on the campus of Kansas State University. The outdoor season begins in mid-March.
