The 2009-2010 Travel and Adventure Series will continue this month at North Iowa Area Community College. “Barbados: Island in the Sun,” a film by Steve Gonser, takes this season’s series to the white sandy beaches and shining golden sun of Barbados Island.
NIACC and the Mason City Noon Kiwanis sponsor the Travel and Adventure Series. There will be a 15-minute intermission at which time door prizes will be given away. The film will be presented at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, February 3, in the North Iowa Community Auditorium.
Considered one of the “most British” islands in the Caribbean Region, Barbados is a sophisticated tropical island with a rich history and plenty to capture the attention of visitors. Explore the seemingly endless white-sand beaches and the West Indian traditions with Steve Gonser.
Allow yourself to sink into the charm and comfort of the West Indian traditions. Encounter the cordial and good-natured locals while enjoying the serenity of the clear, azure sea. Wander through the capital Bridgetown and nourish yourself with the land’s fruit.
Gosner will introduce you to the deeply religious, open, generous, friendly and thoughtful people that reflect the island’s atmosphere and the attractions and majestic landscapes that repeatedly draw visitors to this Island in the Sun.
Admission to “Barbados: Island in the Sun” is at the door $5 for adults and $3 for students. Tickets can be purchased at NIACC or from any Mason City Noon Kiwanis member or at the door. A portion of the proceeds will go toward area youth programs. For additional information, call NIACC Continuing Education at 641 422-4258.
