The North Iowa Concert Band, under the direction of John Klemas, will present a Spring Concert on Tuesday, April 6th at 7:30 p.m. in the North Iowa Community Auditorium on the North Iowa Area Community College campus.
The program will include: “American Salute,” Morton Gould’s most popular composition written during World War II and based on the Civil War song, “When Johnny Comes Marching Home”; “Anasazi,” “Mvt. I. The High Mesa,” written by Albert O. Davis as a token of respect for the culture, ambitions and achievements of the early Native Americans of the Southwest; “Morceau Symphonique,” by Alexandre Guilmant, featuring trombone soloist, Jacob Humburg; “Africa: Ceremony, Song and Ritual,” a work by Robert W. Smith based on the primitive folk music of Western Africa; and “The Circus Bee March,” by Henry Fillmore which reflects his lifelong interest in circuses.
Featured trombone soloist, Jacob Humburg, a native of Mason City, started playing the trombone in the fifth grade at Hoover Elementary. He attended Roosevelt Middle School and graduated from Mason City High School in 2008. While at MCHS, Jacob participated in concert band, jazz band and studied with private instructor Mike McEniry. Currently a Music Education major at NIACC, Jacob is a member of the NIACC Jazz Ensemble, the North Iowa Concert Band and studies trombone performance with John Klemas, NIACC director of bands. Jacob will graduate this May from NIACC and then plans to continue his degree in Music Education at the University of Northern Iowa next fall.
