The 35th annual variety show, Quodlibet, will be performed by the NIACC Singers and NIACC Concert Choir on April 22, 23, and 25, in the North Iowa Community Auditorium. All performances will begin at 7:30 p.m.
This year’s theme, Legends, features songs and music of legendary performers such as The Beatles; Peter, Paul and Mary; and The Doors. Selections include pieces from Pop, Rock, Country, R & B, Motown and even Classical genres.
“This has turned out to be one of my favorite Quodlibet productions,” said Jayson Ryner, musical director. “There will be a wide representation of music from Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper to a rock set and a country set from the 80’s. The variety of music will make for an exciting show.”
NIACC’s Show Choir and the NIACC Singers bring a high-energy choreographed performance to the stage. The NIACC Show Choir will perform sets that feature songs by Journey, REO Speedwagon, John Mellencamp, Jefferson Starship, and The Who. Medleys of songs from the disco era and from Michael Jackson will be performed by the NIACC Concert Choir.
“While the Legends theme opens the door for great variety, it also brings many challenges,” Ryner said. After the legendary performers were defined, acts were grouped to reflect several musical eras and still highlight key artists such as Elvis, The Beatles and Michael Jackson. “By trying to keep a broad representation of all levels, some great performers had to be withheld from the show. Perhaps “Legends: Part II” should be the title for Quodlibet 2011,” said Ryner.
Quodlibet tickets can be purchased from either Mason City Hy-Vee location, the NIACC Box Office or by calling 641-422-4188 or toll free at 1-888-466-4222, Ext. 4188. Tickets cost $7 for adults and $4 for students.
