Members of the North Iowa Area Community College Foundation wanted to find a way to recognize exceptional efforts from staff and faculty at NIACC. “We feel that we came up with a wonderful way to honor our staff and faculty members for the many things they do,” said Pat Galasso, President of the NIACC Foundation. “Our employees are our best asset at NIACC and we want to show how much we appreciate them.”

The board decided to give an annual Honorarium or an ‘Excellence in Service’ award.   Up to $1,000 will be awarded each year by the NIACC Foundation Board to recognize exceptional efforts of full-time NIACC employees. It could be awarded to one person or split between two.

Nominations from peers were accepted on behalf of employees who have gone above and beyond their daily obligations. They could be nominated for a variety of reasons, including, but not limited to, student support, service to the College, leadership or community engagement.

During an all-staff meeting on January 10, two employees were surprised with the announcement they would be the first recipients:

  • Barb Eisenmenger was awarded for her recognition in the Garner community as a leader in providing educational opportunities to residents of all ages. She is known for her enthusiasm to lead projects, create new programs and reach out as a NIACC advocate and community leader. She is described as a lifelong learner, an outstanding citizen and an inspiration by her coworkers and community members.
  • Craig Zoellner was awarded because he is known for graciously sharing his knowledge and experiences with students, faculty and staff.  He strives to offer the best education for his students and tries to accommodate their needs.  Throughout the state Craig has been recognized as an outstanding science educator.  He inspires students and colleagues with his passion for teaching and the environment.

Each received $500 from the NIACC Foundation.
