Winter has finally arrived in North Iowa, however, the North Iowa Area Community College Ski and Snowboard Club starts thinking about snow early in the fall snow when the grass is still green and the weather is nice and warm in order to plan the trips for the NIACC students and alumni.
In its fifth year as a NIACC student organization, the Ski and Snowboard Club has several day trips planned to Minnesota and Iowa ski resorts as well as a trip to Winter Park, Colorado over spring break in March.
“We have to start planning early so that we can get the early season discounts and keep the trip cost as low as possible for the college students. This year we have a great price to Winter Park for the spring break trip with four days of skiing or snowboarding. The students will save 20 percent if they sign up by December 7,” Bruce McKee, NIACC Ski and Snowboard Club co-adviser, said.
McKee, NIACC instructional technology coordinator, and John Brietzke, NIACC economic instructor and club co-adviser, have taken dozens of trips with the club over the past few years, including four trips to Colorado and Montana ski resorts. There are currently over 30 students in the NIACC Ski and Snowboard Club.
Current students, alumni and students who are starting at NIACC in the spring semester can sign up for the trips now to take advantage of the early discounts. For more information go to the Ski and Snowboard Club web site at http://staff.niacc.edu/skiclub/ or call Bruce McKee at 641-422-4348.
