North Iowa Area Community College donated a variety of equipment and music materials to the Aplington-Parkersburg Schools, which were dramatically affected by this summer’s tornadoes and flooding.

“I received a mass email from the Iowa Choral Director's Association requesting equipment.  NIACC had an auction coming up, so I contacted (NIACC Facilities Management director) Tony Pappas and (former NIACC president) Michael Morrison (retired 2008) early in the summer to get the ball rolling on our donation,” Jayson Ryner, NIACC vocal music director, said.

Pappas coordinated the delivery of a variety of sound system and lighting equipment, platforms and furniture from NIACC to the Aplington-Parkersburg Schools.  Everything from amplifiers and speakers to stage risers, desks and filing cabinets that were no longer used by NIACC will now help maintain the music programs in the Aplington-Parkersburg and Waverly-Shell Rock school districts.

“The music staff at Aplington-Parkersburg really has appreciated the assistance from NIACC. Most of the desks and tables have been put to good use in our classrooms at the Aplington building.  Randy Winkey, our instrumental instructor, and I have been coordinating efforts to let Waverly-Shell Rock use and have the items that we do not need. My vocal room is full of extra equipment that will be sent to Waverly-Shell Rock when they get their temporary building set up.  Words cannot express our appreciation.  Thanks again for lending a hand to our school districts at a time when we need it the most,” Greg Wessel, Aplington-Parkersburg vocal music director, said.
