North Iowa Area Community College’s enrollment increase translates to a record 3,485 students attending the College this fall, which translates to 212 more students enrolled at NIACC than compared to the same time last year.
“It’s wonderful to see so many students recognizing the quality education they can receive at NIACC,” Dr. Debra Derr, NIACC president, said. “This represents 3,485 votes of confidence in NIACC and the education we provide. It also shows that more and more people are taking advantage of the low-cost, high-quality education and college experience that NIACC offers.”
The increase in the College’s student population along with the steadily decreasing number of area high school graduates means that more area students are choosing NIACC.
According to NIACC’s 14th day enrollment headcount, which subtracts withdrawals and cancellations that occurred during the first 14 days of school, this fall’s 3,485 NIACC students sets a new record. While reported registration numbers in earlier years may have been higher, those figures did not subtract student withdrawals and cancellations as current 14th day headcounts do.
Derr describes enrollment as a moving target. Along with the traditional 16-week face-to-face classes on the NIACC campus, the College also has classes in communities throughout North Iowa, open entry/open exit classes, 8-week classes, classes in partnership with area high schools and the hospital, classes over the Iowa Communications Network and classes online.
