In the spring of 2008, nine high school students piloted the Hampton Health Careers Academy. Due to the success, classes will begin again in January 2009. Area Hampton adults will also have the opportunity to attend nurse aide and medical terminology classes with the Academy students.
The Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) course prepares individuals to work in long-term care facilities and hospitals. The course will be held at the ABCM Corporate office, 119 2nd Avenue NW, Hampton from 8:00-10:00 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, January 15 - March 20. Instructors for the course will be Marilee Knapp and Marlene England. The clinical component of the class will be conducted at the Hampton Care Center. Clinicals will be held on Thursdays from 6:00 -10:00 a.m. and Saturdays from 6 a.m. - 2 p.m. A complete schedule with exact times and locations will be distributed at the orientation meeting on November 24.
Medical Terminology I will be taught by Kris Shafrath, 8:30 -10:00 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, January 15 to May 4 at the same facility.
This Health Careers Academy is a partnership between NIACC, Hampton-Dumont High School, ABCM Corporation, and the Regional Health Education Center.
