Governor Chet Culver recently announced that the month of November will be recognized as Career Development Month. North Iowa Area Community College is partnering with the Governor to declare November as a month for special focus on career development activities.
In his State of Iowa Proclamation, Governor Culver emphasized that “a skilled, competent and well-prepared workforce is essential for a strong state and national economy; building an integrated system to educate, train, and retrain youth and adults requires a strong partnership between public education and the business community; and cooperation education and internships are essential precursors to the job market.”
NIACC’s Career & Internship Center supports the Governor’s efforts.
“Governor Culver’s Career Development Month proclamation is important since it draws additional attention to internships and the ever growing role they are playing in addressing the state’s workforce needs,” Terry Schumaker, NIACC Career and Internship Center director, said.
NIACC views career services and internships as an important part of the education process, and the NIACC Career & Internship Center provides assistance and support to current NIACC students and alumni. Services offered include: current job opportunity notification to students and alumni; one-to-one support for developing and improving job search skills; access to placement statistics, career information, job search reference material, and labor market information; internship guidance; and an annual job and internship fair.
Companies interested in learning more about NIACC’s cooperative education and internship programs should contact Dana Heimbuch, Internship Coordinator, at 641-422-4238 or heimbdan@niacc.edu.
