North Iowa Area Community College and Upper Iowa University celebrated the announcement of a new Early Childhood Education articulation agreement today.
“NIACC is proud of this new option we can provide to our students. This agreement centers on providing a quality educational experience for our students and providing them with a convenient pathway to a bachelor’s degree. It is an exciting day to solidify yet another seamless path for our students to follow,” Dr. Mark Johnson, NIACC vice president for academic affairs, said.
The agreement will make it possible for students to earn an Associate of Arts degree with coursework in early childhood education at NIACC in two years and transfer seamlessly to earn their Bachelor of Arts in prekindergarten-grade three education at Upper Iowa University.
“The Iowa Department of Education is encouraging such agreements between community college early childhood programs and four-year colleges that offer early childhood teaching majors and endorsements as the goal is for those who teach our youngest children to have four-year degrees,” Dr. Gail Moorman Behrens, Upper Iowa University chair of the division of education and health, physical education and recreation, said.
Faculty from both institutions worked together to create the articulation agreement for students.
“We are very pleased and honored to have this new partnership with Upper Iowa University. We are very pleased for this opportunity to help our graduates make a smoother transition to Upper Iowa University,” Nancy Fallis, NIACC early childhood education instructor, said.
