RSVP of North Central Iowa will honor the many hours of service provided by their volunteers with a Volunteer Recognition Celebration to be held on Thursday, May 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the NIACC Activity Center.
“This is truly a celebration this year as we celebrate RSVP coming to NIACC and recognize the outstanding service by local volunteers,” Dr. Karen Pierson, vice president of Student Development and Success, said.
RSVP currently serves volunteers who work with 308 students in 12 schools serving as Reading Buddies, Reading Coaches, and Breakfast Buddies. They work with elementary and middle school students on reading skills and also mentor students while eating breakfast at school. The roster of volunteers includes 175 dedicated individuals from the service area. Additional community needs in North Iowa are being explored for future volunteer opportunities.
The theme for event is ‘Reuse…Recycle…Revive.’ The celebration begins at 11 a.m. with a welcome from Dr. Debra Derr, NIACC president, and will include a volunteer recognition ceremony. Pierson will speak on volunteerism plus assist with honoring the volunteers. Lunch will be served at 12:15 p.m. featuring a ‘Go Green’ inspired meal. Following the meal, volunteers will enjoy, relax and revive with piano entertainment provided by Katie Daugherty, of Dougherty.
“This has been a year of transition for RSVP. We are so looking forward to experiencing the event that honors the volunteers who make this program such a success,” Molly Anderegg, RSVP of North Central Iowa director, said.
RSVP Advisory Council members, and hosts for the recognition event, include: Jan Anderson, of Joice; Adriana Attleson, Tim Fleming, Craig Hickok and Coni Samsel, of Mason City; Pam Angstman of Buffalo Center; Tony Coloff and Mike Ebaugh, of Forest City; Joan Hanson of Garner; Beth Nyguard of Lake Mills; Brenda Hanson of Britt; Andy Hill of Manly; John Severtson of Clear Lake; and Dennis May of Kensett.
