Local Contractors Partner with NIACC to Train
Existing Employees
Employees of 10 local building contractors are honing their skills in
the evenings, thanks to a state training grant and a partnership between
the Contractors Advisory Association and North Iowa Area Community
College.
The $15,000 in state funding, granted by the Iowa Department of
Economic Development under the Iowa Jobs Training (260F) Program, is
covering the expenses for training in three different areas: print
reading & estimating, concrete form work, and framing.
Andy Wermes, NIACC Building Trades instructor, is teaching the
classes, which meet two nights a week. Each workshop involves 18-20
hours of instruction over several weeks.
Contractors Advisory Association members include: Dean Snyder
Construction, Clear Lake; Henkel Construction, Mason City; Henningsen
Company, Mason City; Ken Petersen Builders, Mason City; Kenison
Construction, Kensett; Larry Elwood Construction, Mason City; Larson
Contracting, Lake Mills; Mason City Overhead Door Co., Mason City; Paul
Koenigs Construction, St. Ansgar; and Randall Construction, Osage.
