NIACC Associate Degree Nursing Students Hold Pinning Ceremony

Students from North Iowa Area Community College’s Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program recently participated in a pinning ceremony. The tradition of presenting a pin to nursing graduates began in 1880. The first ceremony held in the United States was at Nightingale School of Nursing. Nurses often wear pins on their uniform with pride as a symbol of their education.

Students graduating from NIACC’s ADN program and taking part in the pinning ceremony were: Ben Blick, Jessica Colombo, Beth Curry, Carolyn Dalrymple, Sara Fryar, Shannon Johnson, Kristi Kingston, Dena Lamoreux, Krista Pruin, and Kathy Reindl all of Mason City; Jane Collins and Sara Einck of New Hampton; Patricia Duckworth and Jessica Shreve of Greene; Lori Estlund of Charles City; Daniel Hansen of Nora Springs; Jamie Hennessey of Osage; Shannyn Hoerchler of Lake Mills; Matt Stroup of Sheffield; Jen Wilcox of Ventura; and Allison Wirtjes of Thompson.

This student-sponsored event is held when students have successfully fulfilled the program’s requirements. The ADN program traditionally can be completed in one summer term and four academic terms. Students have eleven clinical rotations during the course of the program. The student completes the final rotation one-on-one with a registered nurse serving as a preceptor. Students will take their licensure exam later this summer.
