December 14, 2001 Mike Herman Attends Orientation Meeting with Governor Vilsack Mike Herman, a member of the Iowa Workforce Development Board, attended an orientation meeting for new state boards and commission members in Des Moines. Herman has been appointed by Governor Tom Vilsack to serve as a member of the Regional Workforce Investment Board for Region Two. At the meeting, Herman met with Governor Vilsack to discuss the administration’s policies and goals in improving Iowa government by making it work better for people and families across the state. "Each of you has an important responsibility in representing the voices of Iowans across the state," Vilsack said. "It is imperative we remain committed to making Iowa the best place to live, work, and raise a family." In response to the national economic downturn that has reduced state revenues, Vilsack said he is taking steps to protect Iowa’s fiscal stability while protecting the crucial investments in children and families across Iowa. "It is important that each of us dedicate our efforts to balance the state’s priorities by protecting the investments that are key to Iowa’s future. I encourage you to provide innovative ideas, expertise, and a local viewpoint in meeting these priorities," Vilsack said. Herman has been employed at Lehigh Portland Cement Company for 24 years. He is a member of Local D106 Union and is President of North Iowa Nine Labor Council. ##### Ref. 1999 |
