Travel and Adventure Series Explores The Eastern & Oriental Express

The 2001-2002 Travel and Adventure Series continues this month at North Iowa Area Community College. The series includes five presentations. The Eastern & Oriental Express, a 90-minute film by Buddy Hatton, takes this season’s series to the Malaysian Peninsula and is sponsored by NIACC and the Mason City Noon Kiwanis. There will be a 15-minute intermission at which time door prizes will be given away. The film will be presented at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8, in the North Iowa Community Auditorium.

This film’s journey is aboard the spectacular and famed Eastern and Oriental Express Train through the Malaysian Peninsula. The adventure begins in Singapore, the gleaming city republic perched at the foot of the peninsula. The train makes stops in cities rich in tradition and mystery, cities whose sights, smells and sounds weave themselves into the truly exotic and unforgettable tapestry that is the essence of the Far East. The train travels along with lovely views of soft green fields and distant jungles. The final stop is Bangkok, the vibrant and exotic capital of Thailand. This is a city of temples and palaces, canals, dragon boats, silk and gems.

Hatton, two-time winner of the prestigious "Percy" Awards as Canada’s Television Male Entertainer of the Year, now brings his talent and ability to the travel film industry. Hatton got his start by producing his own radio and television show in San Francisco, with fellow teenager Johnny Mathis as one of his regular featured guests. He’s been a record producer, talent manager and commercial spokesman for numerous major corporations. With his previous entertainment business experience, becoming a travelogue producer and lecturer was a natural progression. This is Hatton’s second year presenting for the Travel and Adventure Series.

Admission for The Eastern & Orient Express at the door is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Season tickets good for admission to the 2001-2002 Travel and Adventure Series will also be available at the door and cost $20 for adults and $12.50 for students.
