Workforce Development Partnership January Career Workshops

 The Workforce Development Partnership, a joint venture of Iowa Workforce Development, the Iowa Department of Human Services and North Iowa Area Community College, is offering career planning workshops and services during January.

All events are being held in Mason City at the local Workforce Development Center, 600 S. Pierce Avenue at no fee.

 Workshop dates and topics are:

Every Tuesday, What’s Hot! 3:45 p.m.-4:15 p.m.

This workshop presents an overview of current job openings, how to apply, and how to use Labor Market Information to identify future trends.  Call North Iowa Career Center (641) 422-4292 to register.

 January 7-9: ACE-The Action for Career Employment Workshop, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

In this motivational workshop participants will learn how to successfully deal with change, set goals, think positively about their future, and take control of their lives.  Call Janice at (641) 422-1515 to register.

 January 10: Assessment, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

This day includes an interest inventory and aptitude test to help participants decide which career track to pursue.  To register call Janice at (641) 422-1515.

 January 15-17 & January 21-23:  Job Seeking Skills, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Three days will be spent on developing resumes, filling out applications and brushing up on interviewing skills.  Call Mickey at (641) 422-1514 to register.

 January 21-23: Challenges and Choices, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

This life skills/parenting skills class is designed to assist men and women in developing a variety of skills to assist them in meeting their day-to-day responsibilities.  Call Heather at (641) 422-1504 to register.

 The Iowa Advantage Program offers nine workshops held on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout each month.  These classes are designed to provide information, guidance, and training that will assist workers in transitioning to employment.  Registration is required. Please call (641) 422-1524.     

January 14

  • 1-2 p.m.  Ready-Set-Go!  Work on applications, resumes, cover & thank you letters.
  • 2-3 p.m.  Community Resources: Information about federal, state & local resources.

 January 16

  • 1-2 p.m.  Budgeting On A Shoe String: Information on surviving with limited income.
  • 2-3 p.m.  Where Do I Go From Here?  Overview of all nine workshops offered.
  • 3-4 p.m.  Career Decision Making:  Facts you should know before pursuing a new career.

 January 28

  • 2-3 p.m.  Your New Job and You! Topics include job retention, employer’s expectations, how to be a team player and more.
  • 3-4 p.m.  Coping with Change:  How to manage change and its impact on the family.

 January 30

  • 1-2 p.m. Going Back to School: Learn about Financial Aid and balancing school, family and employment.
  • 2-3 p.m.  Everything You’ve Ever Wanted to Know About Unemployment Insurance But Were Afraid to Ask:  Find out if you are eligible and how to apply plus much more.

 GED and Adult Basic Education classes will be held from 8-12 Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  There is no fee and no registration.

 The Mason City Workforce Development Center has a Resource Center that is open Monday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and Tuesday–Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.  Staff is available to direct customers to computer software, publications and Internet sites to help them research careers, schools, communities, and obtain information regarding current workforce trends.  Call Mila at (641) 422-1525 for additional information.
