Jacki Dougherty of Waldorf College has been named this week’s Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for April 25, 2002.

The freshmen pitcher was impressive on the mound last week leading her team to three conference victories. In a win over Iowa Central on April 13th, the freshmen threw a no-hitter while striking out 17 batters. The following Friday, Dougherty threw a one hitter with 13 strikeouts in a victory over Southwestern CC and she topped off the week with a 4 hitter, 12-strikeout performance against Marshalltown CC on Saturday. All in all, Dougherty struck out 42 batters in 20 innings of work. On the year, the former Belmond standout leads the conference in strikeouts (143) and in ERA with an impressive 0.73 for a Waldorf team that is leading the conference with a 16-2 record.

Brooke Brodersen of North Iowa Area CC, Mason City, has been selected this week’s Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office Thursday.

The ICCAC’s Scholar-Athlete program honors conference student-athletes for their athletic performance and their academic success in the classroom. The program began during the 2000 – 2001 academic year.

Brodersen, (Fresh., Education, 3.0) was perfect on the mound last week. In victories over conference foes Iowa Lakes CC (2-1), Ellsworth CC (8-6), Marshalltown CC (8-5) and Muscatine CC (7-4), she struck out 8 batters in 34 innings of work. She also helped herself from the plate by batting .440 with 3 RBI’s and five runs scored. For the season, she has struck out 61 batters in 151 2/3 innings with 13 victories.
